How does this compare with Bangkok?
Tuition at the top provincial schools now matches the capital: BISP's THB 977,900 for Year 7 is above Bangkok Patana's THB 842,000 for Years 7 to 9. The gap is in everything around tuition. Entrance fees are THB 250,000 at Patana and THB 260,000 at ISB; provincial schools charge THB 80,000 to 130,000 except BISP and Rugby at THB 200,000. ISB's buses cost THB 111,300 to 148,100 a year against THB 39,700 to 59,500 at Lanna. Sibling discounts start earlier too: 10% for a second child at Prem, Lanna and HeadStart, where Patana and Harrow start at 5% for the third. Our Bangkok guide and Bangkok fees post have the capital's tables.
How do you check a school is licensed and accredited?
Two checks. First, the licence: every international school in Thailand operates under a licence from the Ministry of Education issued through the Office of the Private Education Commission (OPEC), whose site carries a section for private schools in the international category. Second, membership of the International Schools Association of Thailand, which requires a valid Ministry licence and an operating campus, and grants full membership only to schools accredited (or in candidacy) with an overseas agency or with Thailand's ONESQA. Ask any school for its licence number, its ISAT status and its most recent accreditation report before you pay an entry fee.
