What does each year group cost?
Fees climb with age. Three published schedules show the shape of it:
- Bangkok Patana: Nursery ฿515,000; Foundation Stage ฿577,000 to ฿640,000; Years 1 to 6 ฿749,000 to ฿811,000; Years 7 to 9 ฿842,000; Year 10 ฿957,000; Year 12 ฿1,014,000. Years 11 and 13 are billed for two terms only (฿707,000 and ฿749,000) because the third term is exams.
- Harrow Bangkok: Nursery ฿663,900 (half day) to ฿737,600; Reception ฿757,600; Years 1 to 5 ฿880,300; Years 6 to 8 ฿961,900; Years 9 to 11 ฿1,040,000; Years 12 to 13 ฿1,063,000. Boarding adds ฿456,700 (weekly) or ฿571,100 (full).
- ISB: Pre-Kindergarten ฿659,000; Kindergarten to Grade 5 ฿1,015,000; Grades 6 to 8 ฿1,137,000; Grades 9 to 12 ฿1,197,000.
Two-term billing in exam years is common at British-curriculum schools (Shrewsbury does the same for Years 11 and 13), so the final-year figure in a fee table is sometimes lower than the year before it.
What is charged on top of tuition?
This is where families get caught. Read the notes on the fee schedule, not just the tuition line. Typical add-ons, with the published 2026/27 examples:
- Application fee: ฿4,000 to ฿5,000, non-refundable (Patana ฿4,000 rising to ฿5,500 from August 2026; Shrewsbury and Harrow ฿5,000; ISB ฿4,700).
- Entrance, registration or guaranteed-place fee: ฿225,000 to ฿260,000, paid once before entry, non-refundable. Patana lets Foundation Stage and Year 1 entrants stagger it, with ฿40,000 up front.
- Deposits: refundable on leaving with notice. Patana ฿50,000; Harrow ฿200,000 for day pupils, ฿275,000 for boarders.
- Recurring levies: Patana's capital assessment fee is ฿30,000 a year; ISB's annual fee is ฿22,000.
- English as an additional language: ฿105,000 a year at Patana for Years 1 to 9 if the school decides support is needed.
- Transport: ISB's bus runs ฿111,300 to ฿178,000 a year by distance. Other schools are in the same order of magnitude.
- Exams, uniforms, devices, music lessons, residential trips: excluded almost everywhere. Patana is the exception on trips (compulsory residentials in Years 3 to 10 and 12 are in the tuition).
A realistic first-year budget at a top-tier school is the tuition plus ฿250,000 to ฿300,000 in one-time charges plus 10 to 20% for extras.
How does curriculum affect the price?
In Bangkok the British-branded schools (Wellington, Shrewsbury, Brighton, Harrow, Denla) and the two big legacy schools (ISB, Patana) occupy the top band. IB is offered across the range: at the top by ISB and Patana in the Diploma years, in the middle by KIS and RIS, and at the lower end by Ascot. American-curriculum schools span the same spread. Cambridge IGCSE and A Levels are the most widely available route at the ฿300,000 to ฿600,000 level. If the choice between the two systems is still open, read Cambridge vs IB: which is right for your child.
How can families lower the bill?
- Sibling discounts: Patana takes 5% off tuition for a third child, 10% for a fourth, 15% for a fifth, and charges ฿200,000 instead of ฿250,000 entrance for second and later children. Harrow cuts ฿100,000 from its admission fee for alumni children.
- Staggered entrance fees: ask. Patana publishes one for early years; others offer them quietly.
- Employer packages: many expatriate contracts in Bangkok cover school fees in full or up to a cap. Check the cap against the table above before choosing a school.
- Half-day early years: Harrow's Pre-Nursery half-day place is ฿571,100 against ฿634,600 full day.
- Scholarships: merit awards exist at secondary level but are small and competitive. Treat them as a bonus, not a plan.
