Vembadi Girls' High School Jaffna

Vembadi Girls' High School Jaffna, established in 1892 by American missionaries, is one of Sri Lanka's most historic women's educational institutions and the premier girls' school in the Northern Province. For over 130 years, Vembadi has been the cornerstone of Tamil women's education in Jaffna, producing generations of distinguished Tamil women professionals, academics, politicians, and community leaders. The school offers Sri Lanka national O-Level and A-Level programmes from Primary through Sixth Form for female students. Vembadi Girls' High School has maintained its educational mission through Sri Lanka's most turbulent periods — colonial era, independence, civil conflict, and post-war reconstruction — representing remarkable institutional resilience. The school is renowned for producing Tamil Sri Lanka's highest-achieving women students year after year, with many alumni becoming the country's most accomplished women professionals. Facilities include science laboratories, a library, sports facilities, and a chapel reflecting the school's American missionary heritage. Vembadi's alumni network spans the Tamil diaspora worldwide, including significant communities in Canada, the UK, Australia, and Europe, maintaining strong ties to their alma mater.
