Combermere School

Bridgetown, Barbados

Combermere School is one of Barbados' oldest and most celebrated government secondary schools, founded in 1695 — making it one of the oldest secondary schools in the Caribbean and the Western Hemisphere. Located in Waterford, St. Michael, Combermere has produced an extraordinary number of Barbados' most distinguished citizens across politics, law, medicine, sports, and culture. The school follows the Caribbean Examinations Council (CXC) curriculum with CSEC and CAPE programmes, maintaining an outstanding reputation for academic results. Combermere is particularly famous as the alma mater of Sir Garfield Sobers, widely regarded as cricket's greatest all-rounder, as well as Prime Ministers and multiple scholars. The school has a rich tradition in cricket, athletics, and the arts, and its spirit of excellence permeates every aspect of school life. Combermere's historic campus and centuries-old traditions create a unique educational environment where academic achievement and school pride go hand in hand. The school continues to serve as one of Barbados' pillars of secondary education.
