Schule Schloss Salem
Salem, Germany
Schule Schloss Salem is one of Germany's most prestigious and internationally recognised boarding schools, founded in 1920 by Prince Max von Baden and Kurt Hahn — co-founder also of Gordonstoun — on the grounds of the historic Schloss Salem monastery complex on Lake Constance. Educating students aged 10 to 19, Salem offers the German Abitur and the IB Diploma in one of Europe's most extraordinary educational settings. Accredited by IBO and CIS, the school is celebrated for its character education philosophy — the same philosophy Hahn brought to Gordonstoun — emphasising leadership, service, resilience, and an outdoor education programme that takes full advantage of the Alps, Lake Constance, and the surrounding landscape. Salem has an international boarding community of over 50 nationalities and outstanding university placement results. The magnificent historic monastery complex — with its baroque church, library, and parkland — provides an incomparable setting. Notable alumni include the royal houses of Baden, Hohenzollern, and numerous European aristocratic and public figures.
