Rahula College Matara

Matara, Sri Lanka

Rahula College Matara, established in 1887, is one of Sri Lanka's most prestigious Buddhist boys' schools and the leading institution of the Southern Province. A member of Sri Lanka's Group of Nine elite traditional schools, Rahula College offers Sri Lanka national O-Level and A-Level programmes from Primary through Sixth Form for male students. Located in Matara — a historic coastal city in the deep south of Sri Lanka — Rahula College combines Sinhala Buddhist educational tradition with academic excellence. The school has over 135 years of history producing southern Sri Lanka's most distinguished politicians, academics, sportspeople, Buddhist clergy, and professionals. Rahula College is particularly renowned for its cricket excellence — one of the dominant schools in south Sri Lankan school cricket — as well as for rugby, athletics, and Buddhist cultural activities. The historic campus features colonial-era buildings, a Buddhist shrine room, science laboratories, a large library, sports grounds, and a swimming pool. Rahula College's strong tradition and alumni network have made it one of the most influential educational institutions in southern Sri Lanka. Graduates regularly gain admission to Sri Lanka's leading universities.
