Musaeus College Colombo

Colombo, Sri Lanka

Musaeus College Colombo, established in 1891 by Theosophical Society co-founder Colonel Henry Steel Olcott and Buddhist reformer Anagarika Dharmapala, is one of Sri Lanka's most historic and distinctive girls' schools. A founding institution of Sri Lanka's Buddhist educational revival, Musaeus College offers Sri Lanka national O-Level and A-Level programmes alongside Cambridge International qualifications for female students from Primary through Sixth Form. The school embodies the spirit of Buddhist female empowerment and Sri Lankan national identity that drove its founding in the colonial era. Musaeus College is renowned for its academic excellence, exceptional performing arts programme (Kandyan dance, western music, drama), sports, and Sinhala cultural education. The Colombo 7 campus near Independence Square features beautiful historic buildings, science laboratories, a large library, arts facilities, a Buddhist shrine room, sports grounds, and a swimming pool. Musaeus College alumni include many of Sri Lanka's most accomplished professional women, academics, artists, and politicians. The school's unique historical significance as a symbol of Buddhist female education makes it one of Sri Lanka's most culturally important educational institutions.
