International School Ruhr

International School Ruhr (ISR) is an international day school serving the greater Ruhr metropolitan area — Germany's largest urban agglomeration — located in Bochum. Founded in 1999, ISR offers the IB Primary Years Programme, Middle Years Programme, and IB Diploma for students aged 4 to 18. Authorised by the IBO, ISR serves international families from the Ruhr area's diversified post-industrial economy, including major corporations, research institutions, and the region's growing creative and digital industries. ISR has a friendly, inclusive community and is known for its personalised approach to learning and strong pastoral care. The school features well-equipped classrooms, a library, science labs, and sports facilities. German language instruction is a priority, supporting students' integration into the dynamic Ruhr Valley community. The region's remarkable cultural transformation — with world-class museums in Essen, Dortmund's football culture, and the Ruhr's unique industrial heritage — provides a rich and distinctive context for international school life.
