Elmore Stoutt High School

Road Town, Tortola, British Virgin Islands

Elmore Stoutt High School (ESHS) is the largest public secondary school in the British Virgin Islands, located in Road Town, Tortola. Named after the distinguished BVI educator and civil servant Elmore Stoutt, the school serves students in grades 7 through 12 (ages 11 to 18) and plays a central role in public education across the territory. ESHS is government-funded and operated by the BVI Ministry of Education, Culture, Youth Affairs, Fisheries and Agriculture. The school offers a comprehensive curriculum aligned with the Caribbean Examinations Council (CXC) for the Caribbean Secondary Education Certificate (CSEC) and the Caribbean Advanced Proficiency Examination (CAPE). Following significant damage from Hurricane Irma in 2017, ESHS operated from temporary facilities for over five years before reopening its fully rebuilt, modern campus in January 2023. The rebuilt school features state-of-the-art classrooms, science laboratories, computer facilities, a library, sports facilities, and a dedicated performing arts space. ESHS is known for its strong academic programmes, diverse extracurricular activities, and commitment to developing capable, well-rounded BVI citizens prepared for regional and international higher education.
