Christchurch Boys' High School
Christchurch, New Zealand
Christchurch Boys' High School (CBHS), established in 1881, is one of New Zealand's most distinguished state secondary schools, located in the Papanui suburb of Christchurch, the South Island's largest city. The school serves approximately 1,800 boys from Year 9 through Year 13, offering the New Zealand NCEA qualifications and the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme. CBHS holds New Zealand Ministry of Education registration and is one of the country's highest-performing secondary schools, consistently achieving outstanding NCEA and IB results that lead to admission at New Zealand's top universities. The school is particularly renowned for academic excellence, exceptional sport — especially rugby (the school is considered New Zealand's pre-eminent rugby school), rowing, cricket, and basketball — performing arts, and a vibrant co-curricular program. CBHS serves Christchurch's professional and business community, including families from the city's post-earthquake rebuild economy in construction, technology, and services. A boarding program welcomes students from Canterbury, the West Coast, and internationally. Facilities include modern science labs, performing arts spaces, sports grounds, an indoor sports centre, aquatic facilities, and a library. CBHS alumni include All Blacks, Olympians, scientists, politicians, and business leaders. Graduates are consistently admitted to University of Canterbury, Otago, Auckland, and international institutions.
